Sun In Hair Lightner Review and Before and After Results
Sun-In Hair Lightener Review
You don’t need a detailed review by Very Easy Makeup.
In summary…it rocks!! Sun In is cheap, super easy to use, and makes hair blonder.
If your objective is to go lighter…quick…Sun in Before and After is the trick!
Reasons to LOVE Sun In
- Cheap (under $10)
- Easy to Use (see instructions below)
- Makes hair blonder (see images below)
- Quick (less than 5 minutes)
- Doesn’t Damage Hair
- Can Lighten Over Time (spray more on to go blonder!)
However, Sun In DOES has its drawbacks (to be fair).
Sun In is NOT great for these reasons:
- It doesn’t work for all hair colors. It’s best if you already have light brown/dark blonde hair.
- It’s hard to apply highlights (the salon is better for that).
- It CAN look blotchy if you don’t apply it correctly.
- There’s only one color. Unlike toners, you can’t “choose” which shade of blonde you want to be.
Sun In Hair Lightener: Instructions and How to Use
Sun In is SUPER easy to use.
1) dampen hair (you can get your hairbrush wet and brush it through your hair),
2) Hair Lightener Spray in the Sun In, and then
3) blow dry your hair (or go out in the sun!)
Here are the official instructions on how to use Sun In (from the manufacturer).
To Lighten All Over: Spray damp hair generously, comb through evenly, blow-dry.
Highlights: Separate select strands, spray each strand generously, blow-dry.
Repeat above steps until you get the brightness you want.
Before using, test a strand of your hair and follow all label instructions.

Where to Buy Sun In
Of course, the easiest play to buy Sun in Hair Lightener is from Amazon! You can get it delivered right to your door, and you don’t need to go hunting for it at a store.
You can also buy Sun In at stores like Walgreens, Target, and Walmart. Please note: Some Targets carry Target, while others don’t. Same for Walgreens and Walmart. So you may not see it in all stores.
Finding Sun In at Stores
Sun In is NOT found in the aisle next to other blonde treatments like the John Frieda Sheer Blonde Go Blonder lightening shampoo and conditioner, the John Frieda Sheer Blonde Spray, or the Sun Bum Blonde Formula Hair Lightener.
Rather, it is found in the NEXT aisle over next to the hair color dyes and the temporary color dyes (like colorful purple or pink hair chalk).

How Come I Haven’t Heard of Sun In?
Beats me! It’s a hidden gem!
It’s like how some people haven’t heard of ALDI or the super great $1 sunblock at the Dollar Tree. Sun In just doesn’t advertise very much!
How Does Sun In Compare to John Frieda Sheer Blonde Spray?
I’ve used both. Both Sun In and the John Frieda lightening spray work and are good!
I honestly didn’t notice a difference.
Maybe I should do a review though! If you’d like to see a review of Sun In vs. the John Frieda Sheer Blonde Hair Lightener Spray.
How Much Does Sun In Cost?
It’s cheap! Anywhere between $4 and $8 a bottle usually. That’s WAY less than a visit to the salon.
What’s the Difference Between the Pink and Yellow Bottles of Sun In?
They are exactly the same formula. Just different scents! One is lemon fresh and one is tropical breeze.
Will Sun In Work on My Hair?
Sun In will lighten almost ANY color hair, but it might not look good on you!
Sun In works best on women (or men) with light brown and dark blonde hair.
My rule of thumb: If you were blonde in 1st grade, Sun in Before and After will work for you. If you had dark hair, Sun In may make your hair more orange or red.
My Hair Looks the Same. What Did I Do Wrong?
You didn’t use enough! Dampen your hair again. Hair Lightener Spray on more Sun In. And blow dry your hair.
Does Sun In Damage Hair?
I used it for YEARS and my hair stayed healthy, thick, and shiny.
It’s way gentler on your hair than bleaching and dying it or going to a salon.
