The supplies to tone your hair at home are simple.

Wella T18 Toner versus Other Toners
Before diving into Wella T18 toner, keep in mind that Wella makes 8 permanent liquid toners.
I picked T18 this time to neutralize the orange tones in my brassy hair. Orange hair loves Wella T18 toner. Below is a Wella Toner Chart.
Wella T18 Versus Wella T35
I’ve used Wella T27 and T35 before according to Wella Toner Chart. In this case, Wella T18 is for light ash and T35 is for warm golden hues.
For my next home dye and tone job, I may choose Wella T14 or T11.
How to Mix Toner and Developer – Step 1 of Toning Hair at Home
Use Wella T18 toner by mixing two parts developer with one component toner.
- Mix with the Wella T18 toner.
- Pour volume 20 developer into the toner container and stir.
- Pour the developer back into the toner container and mix it.
- Shake the mixer.
How to Apply Wella T18 Toner – Step 2 of Toning Hair at Home
Next, add Wella T18 toner to your hair.
- Wet hair gently. Wet your hairbrush and brush your hair.
- Wear gloves.
- Apply toner + developer solution from mixing container to hair.
- Wait 20-25 minutes.
- Rinse with warm water and apply conditioner.
- Take it easy for 3 days. It’s a no-no for shampoo, pool, blow-drying

I skipped the bleaching this time.
As you can see, my hair is lighter, but not excessively blonde, after using T18 with the developer.

If you merely want to lighten your hair color (as I did in this post), you don’t need to bleach it beforehand.
However, if you actually desire blonde hair, you must first bleach it.
How Long Should I Leave Wella T18 Toner on My Hair?
You may leave your toner on for 30 minutes. But I’d advise considerably less!
If you’re going to bleach your hair first, let the toner on for 15-20 minutes.
If you only use toner on your hair, let it on for 25 minutes.
How Much Does It Cost to Tone My Hair at Home?
Toning your hair at home is cheap.
Toner is normally $5-10 and developer is $5-$15.

Choose T15, T11, T27, or T35 for golden tones. The lightest is Wella T15. The darkest is Wella T35.
Ashy Blonde Hair
Choose Wella T28, Wella t14 Toner, or T18 for ash blonde hair. T18 is useful if your hair is excessively yellow or orange.
Silver Blonde Hair
If you want silver or pale blonde hair, go with Wella T10.
Conclusion – Will I Use Wella T18 Again?
In conclusion, I’m happy with the results of using Wella T18 toner.
Wella T18 versus Wella T35
Even though I enjoy the Wella T18 toner results, I think I prefer the Wella T35 toner outcomes more! My Wella T18 looks bleached out.
I like the Wella T35 color better.
My skin tone is warm, therefore I’ll likely continue with Wella T15, T11, T27, or T35. Choose from these warm skin toner colors.
Going Platinum Blonde
For a more dramatic look (like the platinum blonde I had last summer!), you really need to bleach your hair first.
Salon Versus DIY Blonde at Home
If you want pretty highlights and multiple colors in your hair, it’s best to go to a salon.
